If you’re looking for a holiday twist on one of my favorite and most popular recipes, Keto Hot Chocolate, then this Peppermint Bulletproof Hot Chocolate is perfect! Dairy-free, keto, Paleo.
Can you believe it is almost December already? This year has completely flown by! Now that Thanksgiving is over and the holiday season is in full-swing, that means all things peppermint, cookies and rich, hearty meals surrounded by family.
This delicious peppermint bulletproof hot chocolate is here to kick off my holiday recipes this year. I just love bulletproof hot chocolate, particularly this time of year when the weather gets chilly and everyone wants a hot cup of something creamy by a fire.
For how fancy this recipe sounds, it really is no more difficult than making a regular hot chocolate. For the uninitiated, the premise of bulletproof coffee (or hot chocolate) is that it is filled with healthy fats, like butter and medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil.
Butter and other saturated fat-containing foods have gotten quite the bad wrap due to faulty science conducted several decades ago. Butter and MCT oil are great for the digestive system, aid in weight loss, and are excellent at boosting brain and cognitive function.
If you’re in the mood to try this delicious concoction, then let’s get started!
Start by heating some water, I like 190-200 degrees Fahrenheit (88-93 degrees Celsius) for my bulletproof drinks, because the blending process seems to cool them down a bit.
To the hot water, add your butter, coconut oil or ghee, MCT oil, peppermint extract and some chocolate squares. I like the Lindt 90% dark, which is nice and low in sugar.
Blend until frothy and smooth, then add in some optional chocolate collagen peptides or another protein powder, and additional sweetener, such as stevia, if desired. Shake, or blend again for a few seconds.
